The American Maritime Congress (AMC) announced it has appointed Elizabeth O'Connor as its new executive director. O'Connor officially assumed the role on June 15, 2026, succeeding Fair Kim, who has led the organization since 2021.

O'Connor comes to the AMC from the Maritime Administration, where she served as chief counsel, supporting agency leadership in promoting and developing the U.S. Merchant Marine and the domestic maritime industry. She also previously held a position with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

AMC Chairman Adam Vokac praised the selection, saying O'Connor is "a dynamic, values-driven leader whose diverse background and excellent track record will further AMC's multi-faceted mission to ensure reliable trade, bolster diplomatic strength, and secure fair futures for American workers."

Kim will remain with the organization through a transition period to support the handover. The AMC board of directors acknowledged his tenure in a joint statement, noting that his "strategic efforts have significantly strengthened the AMC" over five years of leadership, and that he "graciously agreed to continue leading the organization until a suitable successor was found."

The AMC is a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy organization representing U.S.-flag shipping companies and maritime labor unions, and advocates for maritime policy, national security, and the U.S. Merchant Marine.
