American Cruise Lines, Guilford, Conn., christened its newest small cruise ship, American Maverick, in Newport, R.I., last week during the vessel’s inaugural nine-day New England Islands itinerary, sailing round-trip from Providence.
American Cruise Lines president and CEO Charles B. Robertson and board chair and treasurer Susan Renner, who served as the ship’s godmother, delivered remarks during the ceremony.
The Patriot-class American Maverick is the newest vessel in American Cruise Lines’ expanding fleet of U.S.-flag small cruise ships designed for domestic itineraries. It was built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding, the company’s affiliated shipyard in Salisbury, Md.
The 243' vessel accommodates 130 passengers and is arranged across four decks. It features all-private balcony staterooms, including single-occupancy cabins and suites, along with multiple passenger spaces such as lounges, a chart room, main dining room, café, fitness center, and a top-deck lounge with a walking track.
American Cruise Lines launched the riverboat American Encore in May and expects to take delivery of the American Ranger, American Mariner, and American Navigator over the next year.
American Cruise Lines operates a fully U.S.-flagged fleet serving domestic itineraries across U.S. rivers and coastal waterways. The company said it currently has eight vessels under construction as it continues investing in the domestic cruise market.
