Washington State Ferries (WSF) has removed the hybrid-electric ferry Wenatchee from service after the vessel reportedly struck a submerged log and bent a propeller while operating in fog on Jan. 23.
The 2024-built Wenatchee, which serves the Seattle–Bainbridge Island route, is one of two large WSF ferries currently out of service. Agency officials said divers are expected to conduct underwater repairs to the damaged propeller.

WSF requires 17 vessels to maintain its full winter sailing schedule but is currently operating with 15.
The incident follows a series of recent service disruptions. At the start of January, three ferries were sidelined within a week because of separate mechanical issues. Since then, Kittitas and Tacoma have returned to service.
The Walla Walla remains out of service with propeller damage and is undergoing replacement of both propellers in dry dock.
WSF said it continues to shift vessels across routes as available to minimize service impacts for riders.
