On May 11, WorkBoat sponsored a quick-and-dirty boatbuilding competition and race on Seattle’s Lake Union as part of the city’s annual Maritime Week. Five teams each had six hours and $100 worth of materials to build a boat on site, which they paddled around a short racecourse following construction. The team from Lake Union Drydock in Seattle took first place, followed by Art Anderson Associates from Bremerton and a team from the Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound. Teams from Armstrong Marine, Port Angeles, and the Seattle Maritime Academy participated in the race but did not finish.
