Seeking Maintenance Engineer

This position is responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, and assisting in maintaining U.S. Coast Guard compliance while minimizing downtime and providing a safe environment for guests and crew.

Position Summary: Savannah Riverboat Cruises is seeking a skilled, dependable, and safety-focused Maintenance Engineer to ensure the reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of our passenger vessels, dock facilities, and support equipment.  

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, organized, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Vessel Maintenance:

• Perform routine preventative maintenance on propulsion systems, generators, pumps, hydraulic systems, HVAC equipment, plumbing, and auxiliary machinery.
• Inspect and maintain engines, transmissions, fuel systems, cooling systems, and steering components.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
• Maintain proper lubrication schedules for all machinery.
• Assist with vessel haul-outs, inspections, and major repairs.
• Monitor engine performance and identify maintenance needs before failures occur.

 
Facility Maintenance:
• Maintain docks, gangways, mooring equipment, and waterfront infrastructure.
• Repair lighting, electrical systems, plumbing fixtures, and building equipment.
• Maintain company vehicles, forklifts, golf carts, and maintenance equipment.
• Perform painting, welding, carpentry, and fabrication projects as needed.

 
Preventative Maintenance:
• Follow a scheduled preventative maintenance program for vessels and facilities.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment logs.
• Monitor inventory of parts, lubricants, filters, and maintenance supplies.
• Recommend replacement parts and equipment upgrades.


Safety & Compliance:
• Follow all U.S. Coast Guard regulations and company safety policies.
• Assist during USCG inspections and regulatory audits.
• Ensure lockout/tagout procedures are followed during repairs.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free engine room and maintenance shop.
• Participate in emergency drills and vessel safety exercises.


Operational Support:
• Respond to mechanical emergencies during vessel operations.
• Be available for after-hours emergency repairs when required.
• Assist captains and engineers with operational issues.
• Support special events and vessel preparations.

Qualifications
Required
• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 3 years of mechanical maintenance experience.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines and marine mechanical systems.
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting (12V, 24V, 120V, and 480V preferred).
• Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Preferred
• Marine engineering or maritime maintenance experience.
• U.S. Coast Guard engineering credentials or QMED.
• HVAC certification.
• Welding certification.
• Forklift certification.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Marine diesel engine certification.
• Experience with Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, or John Deere engines.

Physical Requirements
The Maintenance Engineer must be able to:
• Lift up to 75 pounds.
• Climb ladders and stairways.
• Work in confined spaces and engine rooms.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crawl for extended periods.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Work around machinery, noise, vibration, and marine environments.
• Respond to emergency repairs at any time during scheduled shifts.

• Full-time position.
• Includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
• On-call availability may be required for emergency maintenance.
