Okeanus Science & Technology LLC, a provider of oceanographic rental equipment, turnkey survey systems, and engineered oceanographic equipment, announced last month that it has opened offices and equipment storage facilities in Rhode Island.
The Houston-based company said it opened the new East Greenwich location to support the sharp growth in demand from the offshore energy sector amid increasing offshore wind activity in the northeastern U.S.
Okeanus said the new facility is ideally suited to support the needs of its customers in the region and will provide sufficient space for the storage and maintenance of the company's expanding rental fleet of oceanographic deck equipment and subsea survey systems, and a laydown area for larger a-frames, launch and recovery systems (LARS), over-the-side poles, and other components available in the region.
“Okeanus has been supporting the hydrographic, geophysical, geotechnical, and environmental survey activity in the offshore waters of the northeast United States since 2016, and we have seen a substantial increase in demand for our products and services since then," Benton LeBlanc, Okeanus managing director, said in a statement. "The addition of this new waterfront facility and our decision to position and support a fleet of equipment in the region further signifies our commitment to the development of these critical offshore energy initiatives. Okeanus has become known as the 'go-to' provider of marine survey equipment within the U.S. offshore wind energy sector, and we are looking forward to being able to continue our evolution as a critical member of the supply chain for operators and service providers in this market."
