Alfa Laval, Lund, Sweden, has signed an agreement to acquire BunkerMetric, a Scandinavian software company that develops advanced decision support tools for marine bunker vessels.

Alfa Laval said the acquisition is part of its strategy to expand its digital marine service offering and will be part of the recently acquired StormGeo, a global leader in weather intelligence software and decision support services. The purchase is expected to close during the third quarter.

BunkerMetric, Kongens Lyngby, Denmark, helps ship operators find the best bunker procurement plan and improve voyage margins by using sophisticated algorithms. The optimization tools, together with StormGeo’s advanced route services, will enable ship owners to streamline operations to help them improve their bottom line, Alfa Laval said. BunkerMetric’s procurement optimization tool will become a subscription service within StormGeo’s existing offering.

“BunkerMetric will be a valuable complement to our expanding portfolio of solutions built upon advanced digital technologies,” said Sameer Kalra, president Alfa Laval's marine division. “This acquisition will strengthen our ability to support our customers in voyage routing and operational decision making, thereby helping them improve their vessels’ operational costs.”

Alfa Laval has been a supplier to the marine industry for more than 100 years. It is a leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling, and is active in energy, marine, and food and water, offering its expertise, products, and service to a wide range of industries in about 100 countries.
