American Cruise Lines (ACL) announced Friday that it has begun construction on a new coastal cruise ship, yet to be named.
ACL's Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Md, is building the new 170-passenger vessel, making it slightly larger than the coastal cruise ships that make up ACL’s existing fleet. Staterooms will also be larger, at 350 sq. ft., with private balconies. ACL said that the vessel will feature Rolls-Royce stabilizers.
In announcing the new vessel, ACL stressed hospitality and amenities, including butler-delivered room service, regionally-inspired menus focused on local ingredients, a spa, and ship-wide Wi-Fi.
The ship is scheduled for completion in January 2017, in time for spring cruises that year.
ACL is the largest U.S. cruise company and operates a fleet of riverboats and small cruise ships in the U.S. ACL offers more than 35 itineraries ranging from seven to 21 days in locations around the country including the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, New England, the Southeast and the entire Mississippi River system.
