Greenpeace protesters detained the Finnish icebreaking platform service vessel Fennica as she attempted to cross beneath St. John's Bridge in Portland, Ore. on the morning of Thursday, July 30. The ship underwent repairs in Vigor Industrial's Portland drydock for a 3-foot crack in the hull sustained while en route from Dutch Harbor to the Chukchi Sea in early July. The Fennica departed Portland later on Thursday with a Coast Guard escort along the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean en route back to the Arctic.
