Last week, the Department of Defense awarded several contracts to support ship maintenance, submarine technology development, and electronic warfare systems, with major awards going to General Dynamics, BAE Systems, GE Vernova, and other industry partners. The total value exceeds $169 million across shipyard work, countermeasure procurement, power system prototyping, and temporary lodging services.
General Dynamics NASSCO-Bremerton, Bremerton, Wash., received an $89.4 million modification to a previously awarded cost-plus-incentive-fee, award-fee delivery order for the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The modification finalizes a contract originally issued Jan. 17, 2025, for dry docking incremental planned availability. Work includes maintenance, repairs, and alterations and will take place in Bremerton, with completion scheduled for August 2026.
Funds from fiscal year 2025 Navy operations and maintenance accounts were obligated at the time of the award. Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility, also in Bremerton, is managing the contract.
BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration Inc., Nashua, N.H., was awarded a $40.86 million cost-plus-incentive-fee and firm-fixed-price contract modification for 200 Dual Band Decoy countermeasures and related assemblies for the Navy.
The DOD said production will occur across multiple U.S. sites, with the bulk in Nashua (70.8%). Other locations include Wenatchee, Wash.; Fremont, Calif.; Hopkinton, Mass.; Newark, Del.; Keene, N.H.; Wilmington, Mass.; and additional domestic sites. Completion is expected by November 2027. Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md., is overseeing the procurement.
General Dynamics Mission Systems, Manassas, Va., received an $18.83 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract modification for software development, integration, and technical support across Navy submarine platforms. Work will be completed in Manassas (65%), Middletown, R.I. (25%), and San Diego, Calif. (10%).
Multiple Navy accounts funded the award, including FY25 research and development, FY23 and FY24 shipbuilding, and the FY25 National Sea-Based Deterrence Fund. Contract administration is being handled by Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C.
GE Vernova Power Conversion Naval Systems Inc., Imperial, Pa., received a $10.44 million contract modification to continue prototyping work on high-power electric propulsion components, including a megawatt-scale hybrid modular multi-level converter and a kilowatt-scale power electronics building block. The project supports future propulsion drive applications and advances the Navy’s ability to adopt commercial off-the-shelf systems adapted for military use, DOD said.
Nixon & Nixon Inc., San Antonio, Texas, was awarded a $10.33 million firm-fixed-price contract for the rental of single-occupancy lodging units in Groton, Conn. The housing will support Portsmouth Naval Shipyard personnel assigned to a Los Angeles-class submarine project.
