HII has added 10,000 sq. ft. to its unmanned systems manufacturing facility in Pocasset, Mass., increasing the site’s production space by 25% to 50,000 sq. ft.
The expansion adds capacity to build and integrate the company’s REMUS unmanned underwater vehicles and ROMULUS unmanned surface vessels. It will support production of the Navy’s Lionfish small unmanned undersea vehicle, which is based on HII’s REMUS 300 platform, as well as the REMUS 620. The Navy awarded HII an option-year contract for continued Lionfish production in July.
The facility will also support integration of HII’s Odyssey autonomous control software, including simulation and modeling capabilities and autonomy hardware for ROMULUS vessels.
“By bringing together advanced unmanned platforms, autonomy, integration, simulation and modeling capabilities, we are expanding our ability to deliver the maritime systems our customers need while continuing to create high-quality jobs here in Massachusetts,” said Duane Fotheringham, president of unmanned systems in HII’s Mission Technologies division.
HII marked the expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by U.S. Rep. Bill Keating, D-Mass. The company said it employs about 300 people in Pocasset and has added 50 employees there so far in 2026.
HII’s unmanned systems work on Cape Cod includes a longstanding technology development partnership with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Its REMUS vehicles are used for defense, oceanographic research and environmental monitoring. According to HII, the company has delivered more than 750 REMUS vehicles to customers in more than 30 countries.
