The U.S. Coast Guard's Merchant Mariner Personnel Advisory Committee will hold a working group meeting on Jan. 28-29 in Linthicum Heights, Md., to continue its work on evaluating military education, training and assessment for the STCW and Coast Guard merchant mariner certifications.
At present, no military training is currently recognized as meeting either STCW or Coast Guard certification requirements. The AWO and the barge industry strongly supports efforts to strengthen the U.S. maritime workforce by assisting qualified military veterans in transitioning to jobs in the maritime industry.
