Technology company, Accelint, Tuscon, Ariz., has been awarded a Department of Defense contract under the EMC² (expeditionary missions consortium-crane) program to deliver MV-20 small unmanned surface vessels to the DOD. The vessels will be provided to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Maritime Domain portfolio team.
The MV-20 is an open architecture unmanned surface vessel equipped with a sensor suite and built to carry mission-specific payloads. The vessels are designed for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and both kinetic and non-kinetic operations, an Accelint press release said. They will be used to augment the U.S. Naval Maritime team with forward-deployed, reconfigurable assets to support maritime domain awareness and operational missions, the company noted.
“We are honored to partner with the Department of Defense on this critical program,” said Mike Betzer, Accelint CEO. “The MV-20 sUSV exemplifies our commitment to delivering innovative autonomous solutions that boost naval readiness and mission success.”
According to Accelint, the MV-20 is designed as a low-cost vessel within its class, with the intent to be deployed at scale and is built for speed, long endurance, and operating in extreme sea states. It features modular payload integration for multi-mission flexibility and uses an open architecture design that aligns with “Buy America” requirements.
Accelint develops artificial intelligence, sensor, software, and autonomy solutions for defense and maritime applications. The company said this contract represents a step forward in its work with the DOD to advance unmanned vessel technology.
