Crowley, Jacksonville, Fla., has accepted delivery of the 82' tug Venture, which will provide ship-assist and escort services at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
Built by Diversified Marine Inc., Portland, Ore., the Jones Act-compliant tug will operate under charter. It joins sister Tier 4 Rapport tugs Athena, Apollo, Hercules and Artemis in Crowley’s West Coast fleet.
Venture is powered by twin Caterpillar 3516 diesels that meet EPA Tier 4 emissions standards and produce more than 6,000 hp. Equipped with azimuth stern drives, the tug delivers up to 95 tons of bollard pull, according to Crowley.
“Venture strengthens our ship assist and escort capabilities in Los Angeles and Long Beach, providing the capacity and performance to help advance trade through this key corridor,” John Ara, Crowley’s vice president of marine services, said in a statement.
The tug will support vessel transits, docking and undocking at the San Pedro Bay ports, which together make up the nation’s busiest container port complex.
