St. Johns Ship Building Inc., Palatka, Fla., announced it has delivered the Atlantic Endurance, a new crew transfer vessel (CTV) built for Atlantic Wind Transfers, North Kingstown, R.I.
The 81'4"x28'5" Atlantic Endurance is the second Ambitious-class CTV built by St. Johns for AWT, following the Atlantic Resolute, delivered last year. The aluminum catamarans are designed by Chartwell Marine Ltd., Hamble-le-Rice, England.
Fully commissioned and currently available for charter, the Atlantic Endurance features twin EPA Tier 4 MAN V12-1400CR engines that power HamiltonJet HM651 waterjets through ZF 3050 gears. Ship’s service power comes from twin Cummins Onan 29kW generators. The USCH Subchapter L vessel has capacity for 24 passengers, plus a crew of three or four.
“The delivery of the Atlantic Endurance represents a key milestone for Atlantic Wind Transfers as we continue to grow our fleet of dependable, high-performance CTVs supporting the U.S. offshore wind sector,” Charlie Donadio, president and founder of AWT, said in a statement.
AWT operates a fleet of four CTVs, including the Atlantic Pioneer — the United States' first CTV, built by Blount Boats Inc., Warren, R.I., in 2016 — which is currently chartered to GE Renewables for operations and maintenance support at Ørsted's Block Island Wind Farm. AWT's Atlantic Endeavor, built by Blount in 2020, is chartered to Siemens Gamesa in support of Dominion Energy's Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind off the coast of Virginia Beach, Va., and the Atlantic Resolute is supporting Boskalis at Ørsted's Sunrise Wind project off the coast of Montauk, N.Y.
St. Johns Ship Building, under the ownership of Americraft Marine Group LLC since 2022, has made a push to upgrade its facilities, streamline production, and grow its workforce, in part, to ramp up construction of CTVs. The company has delivered five CTVs within an 18-month period, including two for AWT, plus three for WINDEA CTV LLC, a joint venture between Hornblower Group, Orlando, Fla., and MidOcean Marine LLC, Norwalk, Conn.
“The delivery of Atlantic Endurance marks another important milestone for St. Johns Ship Building as we continue to deliver high-performance CTVs that meet the demands of the offshore wind market,” said the shipyard's president, Joe Rella, said in a statement.
