Moran Iron Works (MIW) launched two oceangoing deck barges last week for Durocher Marine, a division of Kokosing Construction Company Inc.
The two 180'x54'x12' deck barges were built in accordance with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) regulations and classifications.
KOKOSING IV was launched on April 20 and the KOKOSING III the next day at the deepwater port at Calcite in Rogers City, Mich. On April 25, the barges were taken by Durocher Marine’s tug GENERAL to Cheboygan, Mich., to ready them for their first project at Oswego, N.Y.
Bill Hartig, senior project manager for MIW, estimates that approximately 35,000 hours of project management, shop and field work went into the project.
"This is a monumental week for Moran Iron Works," states Tom Moran, CEO of Moran Iron Works. "Our team did an incredible job from start to finish. I couldn't be prouder."
MIW specializes in work for power, marine, mining, and other industries. The company has its corporate headquarters and largest manufacturing facility in Onaway, Mich., and also operates a manufacturing facility in Cheboygan and a port and fabrication facility in Rogers City, Mich.
