The Coast Guard reopened the Mississippi River to one-way traffic from mile marker 50 to mile marker 52, near West Point a la Hache, La. Thursday night.
The Mississippi River was closed Tuesday between mile markers 50 and 53 in response to a 22-barge breakaway.
Vessels planning to transit the area should contact the tow vessel Kyle Joseph to make transit arrangements.
As a result of the breakaway, three deep-draft motor vessels the Marshall Islands-flagged Q Jake, Liberian-flagged Serena P, and the Panamanian-flagged Ocean Tomo sustained damage in collisions. One of the vessels spilled a portion of dry-bulk soy beans into the river.
The spill was secured, and all three vessels safely anchored. All the barges were accounted for and secured, except one still pushed up again the left descending bank, the Coast Guard said.
The agency continues to investigate the cause of the incident.
