A pre-dawn grounding in the Mississippi River near Caruthersville, Mo., on Tuesday set 35 dry cargo barges adrift, and traffic was restricted on 30 miles of river while American Commercial Lines deployed two vessels to assist in the recovery operation, the Coast Guard reported.

ACL’s crew on the 180’x52’x11’ triple-screw towboat Joe Bobzien reported the grounding and breakaway around 4:30 a.m. The Coast Guard restricted all traffic on the river, except for assist vessels, between mile markers 864 and 834. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
