The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has issued a statement of maturity for Aikido Technologies’ floating wind platform design, marking a significant step in the new technology qualification process. This follows a successful demonstration of the Aikido One unit, a 1:4-scale floating wind platform designed to simplify deployment and lower costs for the offshore wind industry, ABS noted.
ABS said the test showcased the platform’s ability to transition from a compact transportation mode to an upright, floating configuration. ABS granted approval in principle for the technology in 2022 and has collaborated with Aikido throughout its development.
According to the ABS statement, Aikido’s compact platform design allows for faster assembly in smaller port areas and can be transported using existing barges, expanding the range of ports and vessels that can support the offshore wind industry, potentially accelerating development while reducing costs.
