We are hiring a Chief Engineer!

As a result of our continued growth and expansion we are excited to announce the opening of this new position.  The Chief Engineer will play a vital role in our successful day to day operations and become a valuable team member.

Yacht StarShip Dining Cruises operates Florida's largest and premier fleet of dining and wedding yachts out of Tampa Channelside and Clearwater Marina. Our dining cruises consist of lunch and dinner cruises, private events, corporate functions, social gatherings, beautiful weddings and much more. Yacht StarShip also owns and operates the Lost Pearl pirate ship, Bay Rocket jet boat, Tampa Riverwalk Rentals and Pirate Water Taxi with a fleet of 7 water taxis offering hop on-hop off service at 15 stops along the beautiful Hillsborough River in downtown Tampa.

Chief Engineer Overview

The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, repair and safe operations of the engineering needs for Yacht StarShip vessels and equipment as well as our sister company’s vessels and equipment.  The Chief Engineer will report to the Director of Marine Operations and the Port Engineer.

Chief Engineer Job Duties Will Include:

·         Successfully and safely perform maintenance onboard vessels up to, and including motor general maintenance, AC/DC electrical troubleshooting, basic plumbing, and hydraulic steering system work.

·         Ensure and promote safety during task execution.

·         Ensure that important vessel information is communicated to other supervisors and the chain of command.  Manage and address day-to-day vessel-related problems including operational, technical support, and safety areas.

·         Provide supervision and guidance to a staff of technicians.

·         Inspect preventative maintenance records in Vanguard and maintain work orders.

·         Maintain an awareness of outstanding USCG 835 deficiencies and executive management findings and report current status and progress on a regular basis.

·         Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.

·         Ensure all company vessels are always in an inspection-ready condition. 

·         Coordinate with the Port Engineer the purchase of parts and services for repair and maintenance projects and ensure that time-critical and operation-critical parts are on-hand.

Chief Engineer Qualifications:

    ·         Marine mechanical and electrical experience required.

    ·         Possess a minimum of three years' experience as a marine engineer. Experience gained while employed by a shipyard or while serving active duty in the military may be applicable towards meeting this requirement if the duties and responsibilities of the positions are substantially the same as a Port Engineer.  Jet drive experience is desirable.

    ·         Familiarity with USCG requirements for Subchapter T and Subchapter K boats.

    ·         Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

    ·         Good project management skills, including strong decision making, problem-solving, and strategic planning abilities.

    ·         Strong time management skills

    ·         Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Card) and/or ability to obtain and maintain.

    ·         Valid driver’s license and ability to be added to company insurance policy.

    ·         Ability to harmoniously work in a fast-paced quickly changing environment.

    ·         Ability to work alongside peers with courtesy and respect for all employees.

    ·         Proven track record of working successfully in a team environment.

    ·         Ability to work in an outside environment that will be subject to all types of weather conditions.

    ·         Ability to work in small crawl spaces, ascend and descend ship ladders in tight spaces.
