Supervision Received:  Reports to the Chair of the Marine Engineering Department and the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Academic Affairs

Supervision exercised:  Subordinate professional, classified, and student personnel in areas of responsibility

 

General Responsibilities:

Instruct college-level courses in Marine Engineering. Preferred specializations include one or more of the following: Diesel Propulsion, Machine Tool Technology, Diesel Electric Propulsion Systems, Naval Architecture, High Voltage, Electrical Engineering, Shipboard Engineering Systems (including Steam, Motor, & Gas Turbine), and/or Auxiliary Systems. The successful candidate will be able to teach cadets in a variety of courses dependent on specialty area. This full-time faculty member will also advise, mentor, and guide cadets on individual study plans and progress toward degree completion. Additionally, as a member of the Professional Maritime faculty, the selectee will sail aboard the Training Ship on alternating years in a 2-month winter Sea Term experience and participate in random drug testing.

Qualifications and Requirements: 

·         A bachelor’s or master’s degree in an appropriate field from an institution accredited at the level of such degree

·         A current USCG Second Assistant or First Assistant Unlimited Horsepower License with current STCW

·         At least three (3) years of full-time experience in teaching at an accredited institution of higher learning or in professional service in the maritime field (or a combination thereof)

·         Understanding of the teaching and advising processes and the application of teaching and advising strategies in the University setting

·         The academic rank of the appointment will be Instructor or Assistant Professor commensurate with license/degree

Preferred Requirements: 

·         Hold a Master’s degree in a related discipline

·         Hold a management level (First/Chief) unlimited horsepower license with current STCW or higher

The academic rank of the successful candidate is determined by licensure, educational background, and experience.

Salary:  $75,000-$85,000, based on education, qualifications, and experience
