Weeks Marine, based in New Jersey, said it is targeting the US offshore wind sector with the latest addition to its fleet, the installation vessel R D MacDonald.
The company said the US-flagged newbuild is being outfitted at its Camden facility “in advance of securing an installation contract” for an unspecified US offshore wind farm.
“The US market needs vessels capable of constructing the first projects and we are optimistic about the opportunity,” said the company in a press release.
The vessel will feature eight jack-up legs with six foot diameters. It will be able to work in waters of greater than 100 feet.
The R D MacDonald is 78’x260’x22 feet, specifically designed to allow passage through the St Lawrence Seaway into the Great Lakes.
