VT Halter Marine may hire up to 400

PASCAGOULA, Miss. – The AP is reporting that VT Halter Marine may hire up to 400 more workers at its shipyard here, on the backs of a new contract with Hornbeck Offshore and a potential $20 million Katrina Supplemental Community Development Block Grant. If the grant goes through, Halter CEO Bill Skinner told the AP the company would kick in another $12 million of its own money for shipyard expansion.

Improvements to its south yard here could include “a repair facility for semi-submersible drilling rigs and new Panamax-sized ships,” plus machine shops, electrical shops, and a dry dock.
