The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Henry Blake, home ported in Everett, Wash., has been on a mission to maintain aids to navigation in the Puget Sound area. What’s that work like? In the following video you can watch as they bring the heavy buoys up on deck, scrub them clean of muck, and make sure they’re in working order. The history of the Coast Guard’s aids to navigation mission reaches back to the beginning of the nation when lanterns were posted high enough on shore to guide ships along the coast. Thanks to Petty Officer 2nd Class Eric J. Chandler for filming and editing this video, which you can watch in HD here.
