CAPE VINCENT, N.Y. – The Associated Press is reporting that an unoccupied minivan rolled off the deck of Horne’s Ferry while underway on Tuesday. The van reportedly “began to roll, knocked down a raised ram on the vessel’s side, and fell in to the water.” The ferry connects Wofle Island, in Canada, with Cape Vincent here, crossing the St. Lawrence River. No one was injured in the accident.
However, the incident apparently caused a commotion, as the deck crew worked to secure a line to the van. After securing it, both the ferry and the van were towed by yet another vessel to a nearby marina. Unfortunately, state police say that after the accident ferry owner George Horned began experiencing symptoms of a heart attack and was taken to a nearby hospital in Watertown.
