US Fab to build split-hull dump barge

NEW ORLEANS – Here at the International WorkBoat Show, US Fab, Seattle, a Vigor Industrial company, announced that it has been awarded a contract to build a 242’×54′, 4,050 cubic yards split-hull dump barge for American Construction Co. Inc., Tacoma, Washington.

Designed by The Glosten Associates, Seattle, the barge will have an advanced sealing mechanism to safeguard environmentally sensitive areas from potential leakage.

American Construction was recently awarded a $4.25 million contract by the Seattle District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for dredging 770,000 cubic yards. of material from the inner harbor near Aberdeen, Wash. The work is expected to be completed by February 15, 2013.

“There are a limited number of splithull dump barges on the West Coast and American Construction is a leader in both cutting edge equipment and quality services,” said Bryan Nichols, sales representative at Vigor Industrial. “We’re proud to add them as a customer and are looking forward to a long-term relationship.”

Construction of the barge will take place in Vigor’s Swan Island shipyard in Portland, Oregon. The yard is outfitted with an expansive 800′ buildway, 600- ton gantry crane and 150,000′ of covered fabrication bays, ideally suited for newbuilds. Delivery is set for June 30, 2013.
