News Bitts

In late June, Florida Marine Transporters, Mandeville, La., sold its black-oil barge transportation business to Houston-based Genesis Energy LP in for $141 million. FMT’s black-oil fleet is primarily made up of 30 barges (seven will be subleased under similar terms of an existing FMT lease) and 14 pushboats that transport heavy refined petroleum products. The fleet principally serves refineries and storage terminals along the Gulf Coast, Intracoastal Waterway and western rivers including the Red, Ouachita and Mississippi rivers. The double-hull barges, which have an average age of about three years, are fully compliant with the Oil Pollution Act of 1990.
