The WorkBoat Composite Index squeaked out a small gain in June but lost ground in the second quarter. For the month, the Index was up 1.2 percent, but lost 1.3 percent for the quarter.
The big winner for the month and quarter were operators. The Operators Index gained 7.6 percent in June and 3.3 percent in the second quarter, topping both the Dow and S&P 500.
In June, gainers edged out winners 19-17. Leading percentage gainers included Cal Dive International and Seacor Holdings Inc.
Cal Dive will reportedly buy seven vessels from Torch Offshore for approximately $83 million. For the month, Cal Dive gained almost $7 a share, or 15.35 percent, to close at $52.37 on June 30.
Seacor Holdings rose almost 11 percent in June to $64.30. Seacor completed its merger with Seabulk International, which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Seacor and will no longer appear in the WorkBoat Composite Index. — David Krapf
