PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Eastern Shipbuilding closed out 2011 by delivering two new vessels: the Harvey Supporter, the first of three Tiger Shark Class OSVs for Harvey Gulf International Marine, and the James J. Perera, a 2,600-hp Canal-class inland towboat for Settoon Towing, Pierre Part, La.
The Harvey Supporter is an STX Marine design featuring a DP-2 SOLAS-classed AC diesel-electric, twin Z-drive OSl measuring 292’x64’x 24’6”. Power and propulsion systems, controls, automation, etc. were provided by the system integrator, Converteam Inc. The vessel features four Cummins QSK60-DM 16-cylinder turbo-charged Tier II diesel generator engines that are rated 1,825 Kw at 1,800 rpm. Main propulsion is provided by two Schottel SRP 2020 FP Z-drives with nozzles rated at 2,500 Kw at 1,025 rpm each for a total of 6,704 hp. Schottel also provided two STT 4 fixed pitch tunnel thrusters rated at 1,180 Kw at 1,170 rpm each with direct coupled electric motors. The vessel is capable of top speeds in access of 12 knots, according to Eastern Shipbuilding.
Total below-deck tankage capacities of the OSV include 275,000 gals. of fuel, 636,976 gals. of ballast water, 19,500 BBLs of liquid mud, 14,350 cu. ft. of dry bulk mud, 1,700 BBLs of methanol and 17,191 gals. of potable water.
The James J. Perera measures 96’x34’x10’ and is identical to the two boats ESG previously built for Settoon, currently in their fleet – the Austin C. Settoon and the Parker A. Settoon. The propulsion system consists of two Caterpillar 3512C electronic marine diesel engines EPA Tier II, rated for 1,300 hp at 1,200 rpm, driving two Twin Disc MGX-5600 direct coupled reverse reduction gears.
The electric power is provided by twin John Deere Tier II 6068AFM76, 99 Kw generators. Steering is accomplished with the installation of two main steering rudders and four flanking rudders, all controlled by an electro-hydraulic control system from Hydra Force LLC.
The fourth towboat, the Amelia L. Settoon, was launched last week and is scheduled to be delivered by February 2012, according to Eastern.
