The Eighth Coast Guard District’s Marine Safety Unit in Houma, La., conducts vessel inspections at more than 25 shipyards every week. The unit inspects everything from tugs to offshore service vessels, including OSV fleets based out of Port Fourchon. The vast majority of the MSU’s work is marine inspections, but they also handle pollution response. With 16 inspectors, MSU Houma is the fourth largest inspection office in the U.S.
