Chouest, Shell discuss new ice class anchor handler Aiviq

Edison Chouest Offshore’s president Gary Chouest and Shell’s vice president, Alaska, Pete Slaiby met with members of the media during christening ceremonies aboard ECO’s new 360’8″x80’x34′ anchor handling/towing supply vessel Aiviq. The new offshore service vessel will be part of Shell’s North Slope of Alaska’s drilling operations set to begin this summer.

The two men discuss what the vessel can do, why it was built, and why Shell wanted to make such a big investment in a new boat. They also discuss the positive economic effects for everyone involved, including steady employment for 1,000 workers amounting to two million man hours and $135 billion in payroll by Shell.
