BRIEF: Scrap metal barge capsizes off the coast of Astoria

Apr. 13–A barge carrying scrap metal capsized this morning about eight miles west of Astoria, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Canadian-based tug General Jackson reported the barge, carrying metal and 500 gallons of diesel fuel, went down at about 7:30 a.m.

There are no reports of injuries or pollution. A Coast Guard lifeboat and helicopter are on the scene.

It is unknown if the load was lost or why it capsized.
