Barge company has expansion plans

Golding Barge Line plans to expand both its workforce and fleet through 2015, a reflection of a healthy tank barge sector.

“We’re taking advantage of a good market,” said Austin Golding, co-owner of the Vicksburg, Miss.-based operator.

Golding will add 50-60 employees to its current workforce of 135 and increase its fleet from 14 to about 20 towboats. The company also expects to eventually add a second building to its property.

The vessels will be new, Golding said. “All of our boats are custom built.”

The private company’s website points out that all of its boats have been built since 2005 and all of the barges constructed after 2001.

Publicly traded Kirby Corp. has noted high utilization rates and strong demand in the inland tank barge market.
