The WorkBoat Composite Index gained ground for the third month in a row in September, posting an increase of 83 points, or 8 percent. The Index closed out the third quarter at 1141 on Sept. 30. For the quarter, the Index jumped 223 points, or 24 percent.
In September, winners topped losers by a 4-1 ratio. Top percentage gainers included American Commercial Lines . ACL was up $7.72, or 36 percent, in September. The Jeffersonville, Ind., barge operator announced that it had realigned its transportation services business into two regional divisions. The company said the realignment would reduce costs, improve efficiencies and streamline communication. ACL said the changes will enable the company to advance a program for scheduled barge transportation service.
Other big gainers in September were Helix Energy Solutions Group and Gulf Island Fabrication .
