W&O Employees Race from Miami to Key West in 24-hour Ragnar Relay Race

W&O, a supplier of marine valves, pipe, fittings, engineered products and valve automation systems, is proud to announce that 15 employees, along with 19 employees from other Pon-owned companies, participated in the 191-mile Ragnar Relay Race between Miami and Key West, Fla. on January 7 and 8.

“We strongly encourage all of our employees to participate in activities that promote an aspect of wellness as part of our ‘W&O: We Are Fit’ program,” said Jack Guidry, Senior Vice President of Pon, and President and CEO of W&O. “W&O took part in the Ragnar Relay in 2008, in which our employees were very passionate and excited to participate; so we extended our invitation to all Pon North America companies’ employees to join us this year. We were thrilled with the response and are very proud of everyone who participated.”

The Ragnar Relay drew more than 3,800 people to the Miami area for the 191-mile adventure through the Florida Keys, which provided beautiful ocean scenery every step along the way from Miami to Key West, the southernmost city in the continental United States. Teams included 12 runners, who each ran three legs of the race, totaling to an average of 16 miles of running per team member.

“I am proud to be part of a company that provides its employees with such invigorating opportunities,” said Alex Piquer, W&O relay team member and General Manager, Automation & Integrated Solutions for W&O. “I participated in the Ragnar Relay in 2008 with Team W&O, so this was yet again a great opportunity to physically exert myself while participating in a team building exercise, as well as meet fellow Pon employees.”

Fifteen W&O employees took part in the race, including Rogier Blokdijk, Don Danley, Jason Galatas, President and CEO Jack Guidry, Matt Hallisey, Christina Hoyt, Greg Johnson, Greg Lechwar, Fred Loomis, Colin Luke, Allison McQuillan, Alex Piquer, India Starnes, Elier Vilata and Bram Zeegers.

The additional Pon companies that participated include DMC-Carter Chambers, based in Baton Rouge, La., one of the largest providers of industrial automation and valve solutions in the Southeast; and Equipment Depot, based in Houston, Texas, one of the premier forklift, material handling and aerial lift equipment companies in North America.

Employees from DMC-Carter Chambers that participated include Steven Berthelot, Clarence Johnson, Howard Jordon, Jason Lee, Renee Mallar, Colleen McDermott and Brandy Piazza.  Employees from Equipment Depot that participated include Chris Aiello, Brian Anderson, Bernie Bowles, Dan Dubois, Casey George, Mike Hassell, Mike Louis, Lisa Martin, Kevin Taylor, Joe Saultz, Samantha Saultz and Jim Wedoff.

The W&O: We Are Fit program combines individual and group activities that incorporate educational material to engage employees in physical fitness and overall wellness.  The program involves health checks/seminars, fitness competitions and sponsorship programs.  Employees from all of W&O’s 18 locations take part in the We Are Fit program within their individual communities.
