Earlier this month, WorkBoat Editor in Chief David Krapf
cruised around Manhattan on the “space-age” Hornblower
Hybrid. The 168’ vessel employs hybrid technology, and has a great design
that maximizes views.
Keir Moorhead, senior project engineer for Hornblower Cruises & Events,
designed the boat and its power system. Krapf sat down with Moorhead to discuss
the vessel’s advanced hybrid power technology system, made up of a pair of Tier
2 700-hp Scania diesels, batteries,
solar panels, a wind turbine, and a soon-to-be-installed hydrogen fuel cell.
Kier also discussed future plans for hybrid vessels at Hornblower.
