BMT Nigel Gee celebrating 25th anniversary

7/5/2011

Independent vessel design consultancy BMT Nigel Gee Ltd., a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd., announces that the company is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

Established as Nigel Gee and Associates Ltd. in June 1986, by Nigel Gee and John Bonafoux, BMT Nigel Gee is today recognised for its naval architecture and marine design consultancies, providing comprehensive service from concept through to detailed production design, the company says. The company started by designing high-speed passenger catamaran ferries, including the world’s fastest passenger ferry and expanding into the yacht, naval and offshore oil and gas sectors. More than 150 of BMT Nigel Gee’s designs have been constructed.

The company says its most notable designs have included Sir David Brown’s MY Chief Flying Sun, a groundbreaking foil-assisted high-speed catamaran yacht; a fleet of 10 x 220 meter high-speed container vessels carrying 1430 TEU at 27 knots; the U.S. Navy’s 80-meter, 60-knot Sea Fighter; a fleet of ultra-low wash passenger catamaran ferries for Amsterdam, as well as Wightlink’s new passenger ferries that are designed to save 40 percent CO2 compared to their predecessors.

Having joined the BMT group, an international maritime design and engineering consultancy, in 2003, the company has continued to expand and has now diversified further into the design of offshore wind support vessels. The company says it strives to meet and exceed client expectations from its portfolio of customers that range from individual clients, fleet operators, marine developers and shipyards.

“Seeing the company grow and mature over the past 25 years has been a great experience,” says John Bonafoux, founding member and now managing director at BMT Nigel Gee, in a company release. “Our core capability in the design of innovative, high performance vessels has allowed us to work across different markets, providing exciting and interesting work for our staff. This has helped us to maintain a strong and loyal workforce, many of whom have been here nearly as long as I have. I’d like to thank all of the team for their dedication and support which has contributed to the company’s success and I am sure they will continue to help us meet future challenges.”
