SAN FRANCISCO - Two passengers on a sailboat in San Francisco Bay took a chilly swim on Saturday after a tug struck their vessel and sank it. The incident occurred around 3 p.m., according to Coast Guard officials, and involved a tug and barge just outside the Golden Gate Bridge.
The tug and crew have not been identified by the Coast Guard, though officials say the crew were ordered back to port to meet with Coast Guard investigators. The sailboat was reportedly roughly 25' long and both passengers were rescued from the water without suffering serious injuries.
Both the Coast Guard and San Francisco Fire Department assisted in the rescue.
