Ferry collides with pleasure craft
SAN FRANCISCO - The Golden Gate Ferry Service ferry MS San Francisco returned to service Sunday after a collision on Saturday with a 22' pleasure craft. Golden Gate Transit spokesperson Mary Currie told KGO-TV that the accident happened around 4 p.m. on Saturday and that the smaller boat was traveling at a high speed when it rammed the ferry.
Two people on board the pleasure craft were hospitalized, with the boat's windshield smashed and bow caved in, but the Coast Guard was able to transfer both boaters to safety aboard their own boat.
The ferry, carrying roughly 500 passengers, continued on its way to San Francisco Terminal and then was taken out of service upon its return to Sausalito.
The Coast Guard continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
