Best Lawyers, one of the oldest and most respected peer-review publications in the legal profession, has named Carlsmith Ball law firm partner Dean H. Robb the “Honolulu Best Lawyers' Admiralty and Maritime Law Lawyer of the Year” for 2012.
Best Lawyers singled out only one lawyer for this award. The publication compiles its lists of outstanding attorneys by conducting extensive peer-review surveys. The current, 18th edition of The Best Lawyers in America (2012) is based on more than 3.9 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by their professional peers. The lawyers being honored as “Lawyers of the Year” have received particularly high ratings in those surveys by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism, and integrity.
"We have long known of Dean's capabilities and his dedication to his clients and we are gratified that others hold him in the same esteem," Carlsmith Chairman Karl Kobayashi said in a press release the law firm issued.
Robb's practice concentrates on business, finance, construction, acquisitions, ocean, and maritime activities and international transactions. Admitted to bars throughout the Pacific, Robb also has considerable experience in the U.S. Pacific islands, including Guam, Saipan, and Micronesia. He has represented a variety of commercial interests throughout the Pacific including shipping, recreation activity providers (tour boats, water sports, etc.) and resorts, design and construction firms, insurance interests, financial institutions and business concerns of almost every type.
His clients also include governments in Asia and the Pacific Basin, Japanese trading companies, international construction consortiums, international banks, and marine P & I clubs, as well as shipping and fishing companies.
Prior to joining Carlsmith Ball, Robb was Assistant Attorney General for the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, a consultant to the United Nations and a consultant to the Asia Pacific Bank.
