The Chamber of Shipping of America recently recognized
Crowley Maritime Corp.’s commitment to operational safety by presenting 67 vessels with 2011 Jones F.
Devlin Awards for safety during the CSA Annual Safety Awards Luncheon in New
Orleans.
Crowley nearly doubled its number of vessels recognized from
last year, and this year joined the ranks of 1,395 merchant vessels from more
than 80 companies the CSA recognized for operating at least two years without a
lost time incident (LTI). Crowley vessels — such as the Valdez Star, which
has not had an LTI in 21 years — consistently perform above and beyond industry
safety standards.
“It’s an honor to once again be recognized by the CSA for
Crowley’s dedication to safety,” says Capt. Vic Goldberg, Crowley vice
president of marine operations, in a company press release. “We strive to do no
harm to people and the environment in our everyday operations, and these awards
are a true testament to that, to our seagoing employees, and to our number one
company core value, which is safety.”
The Chamber of Shipping of America represents 37 U.S.-based
companies that own, operate or charter oceangoing tankers, container ships, and
other merchant vessels engaged in both the domestic and international trades
and other entities that maintain a commercial interest in the operation of such
oceangoing vessels.
