Football, workboats and New Orleans

It was all just a fantasy, really. A few weeks ago I was imagining that my Seattle Seahawks would be playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday in New Orleans and that, somehow, I would be there.
But then despite making a fantastic comeback in Atlanta, Seattle
lost its divisional playoff game against the Falcons in the final seconds and — poof — goodbye
fantasy.
I’ve never been to a Super Bowl, but I have been to New
Orleans many times and I always look forward to my next visit, which is usually
the next WorkBoat Show. But this would be a great week to be in NOLA where the
weather today is a balmy 78 degrees. Up here in Seahawksland, it’s 39 degrees and
raining. In New Orleans, it’s Super Bowl party time soon to be followed by
Mardi Gras. In Seattle, it’s Tuesday.
No, I suspect that I’ll next be flying into Louis Armstrong
New Orleans International Airport in early October for the 2013 edition of the
International WorkBoat Show.
Next October? This year’s WorkBoat Show is in October? But
it’s always been in early December between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s practically a
holiday event.
Nope, not this year. The show will take place Oct. 9-11. Ask the
Morial Convention Center about the timing, but them’s the dates. Which should still be
good. Early October here in the Pacific Northwest can be the beginning of the
wet cold that endures until sometime the following July. So getting a good
dose of southern Louisiana in the fall when the weather is often perfect will be fine.
Meanwhile, who to root for this Sunday? Although I love the "City by the Bay," I’m certainly no fan of the 49ers, so I gotta take the Ravens.
Go Baltimore.
